You might want to look at flickr.com - I am sure there are many artists there from around the world who have similar subject matter, interests and content and there are groups you can join for the purpose of collaboration.
At Flickr.com I use the name of my Second Life avatar - Kato Salyut - and do portraits of avatars found in the virtual world. I also have a group that currently shows the work of about 50 portrait artists from around the world-the group is called Second Life Portraits.
